SSL Interview: Deborah Tolman (Part 1)
Part 1 of 2 - I interview Deborah Tolman, author of “Dilemmas of Desire: Teenage Girls Talk about Sexuality. “ This book is a qualitative study where Tolman speaks to 31 suburban and urban teen girls about their experiences of desire. It’s actually the inspiration, for a whole section of our movie, ‘Science, Sex, and the Ladies.’ I highly recommend reading it.
SSL Interview: Dr. Lonnie Barbach (part 2)
Part 2 of 2 - I interview Lonnie Barbach, author of the on-point book, ‘For Yourself: The Fulfillment of Female Sexuality.’ Check this book out. It’s from the 70’s but still completely relevant.

Pleasure and "Choosing" Whether To Have An Orgasm - Why Women Deserve Just A Little Better
Inspired by a blog post from the author of, “What’s Up Down There? Questions You’d Only Ask Your Gynecologist If She Was Your Best Friend,” I consider women and the “choice” to orgasm with a partner - “While acknowledging that women can enjoy and find pleasure in sex without orgasm, we should also be working to make the choice to have or not to have an orgasm an actual viable choice for women.”
The Kim Cattrall / Samantha Split in All of Us
Kim Cattrall (of Samantha fame in Sex and the City), wrote a book to specifically separate herself and her sex life from her character. It highlights to me the problematic depiction of a sexual woman that ‘has sex like a man’ - because in reality it’s a depiction of a woman that unabashedly has sex that is pleasurable for a man, but fakes her own pleasure…yet we are unwilling to see it that way.
Playboy for the LADIES!
I learned of this magazine, Filament, that focuses on the Female gaze…specifically women taking erotic nudes of men.
Is This Movie Feminist?
People have asked whether this is a feminist movie, which feels like a weird question. So, we took some advice from “Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future,” a 2000 book dealing largely with the plight of 3rd wave feminism.
A couple more things I would like to discuss regarding intersex conditions
2 of 2: Related to reading of Sexing the Body: Gender Politics and the Construction of Sexuality by Anne Fausto Sterling and other research I did at the start of writing this movie, I wanted to speak a bit about Intersex people. It’s not something most people know much about, but it’s an important thing to understand.

The book everyone needs to read
It’s a must read and integral to sections of our movie, Science, Sex, and the Ladies - Hite Report: A Nationwide Study on Female Sexuality by Shere Hite. Find it and read it.
